  • How does a case manager differ from a case management conference?

The Family Court Case Manager is not permitted to answer legal questions or give legal advice. They can assist in explaining court procedures and protocol.  The Case Manager in Alachua County is available by phone and for appointments on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.  For more information about appointments in Alachua County, please call (352) 374-3694.  In the regional counties, appointments can be made with the Case Manager one day a week in each of the five counties.  Because the schedule may vary, please call (352) 374-3665 in advance for specific information.

  • What is a case management conference?

It is a short hearing before the Judge or General Magistrate which all parties to the case are required to attend.  Some issues that may be addressed at the case management conference are: setting or resetting the time of future hearings or trials; coordinating the progress of the case action; pursuing the possibilities of a settlement; or, referring the parties to mediation.  At the end of the case management conference, the court generally orders the parties to the the next step necessary to keep the case moving.  Case management conferences are generally short, ranging from 5 to 15 minutes in length.

  • Who orders a case management conference?

The Court will issue an Order Scheduling Case Management Conference or Referral to the General Magistrate.  This is always signed by a judge and will be mailed to all parties in the case.  It gives the location, date and time of the conference.
